Boy faces criminal charges after punching opponent during tournament

OAK PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A boy is facing legal penalties for punching another boy during a tournament at Oak Park River Forest High School.

The 14-year-old boy who cold-cocked his opponent, according to Oak Park Police, said he did it, because he was angry that he lost the match.

Police said the boy has been given a local ordinance citation for assault. Video of the incident recorded by “The Wrestling spot” has been widely shared.

The boys are about to shake hands when one throws the punch that knocked the other boy to the mat. The victim's family decided to pursue criminal charges.
