A Kentucky grand jury’s controversial decision not to charge police officers in the death of Breonna Taylor sparked a number of demonstrations in Chicago on Wednesday.

One was at South Side Catholic St. Sabina's Church.

Organizer Michael Pfleger, pastor of the parish, said the grand jury’s decision was an injustice to Taylor and all people of color.

The Black woman was fatally shot in March in her apartment when white officers executing a no-knock warrant exchanged gunfire with her boyfriend.

One officer was indicted for wanton endangerment, but that was for firing in the direction of a neighboring apartment.

“They charged one charge to one of the officers, basically the same thing you charge somebody for shooting a gun up in the air,” Pfleger said.

“The girl was murdered — obviously they forget that — in her own house,” Pfleger said Wednesday.

The priest says he doesn’t advocate protest violence, but he suggested it will take the continuing shutdowns of cities before police are held accountable for killing minorities.

Protesters also gathered outside police headquarters, at 35th and Michigan.
