Lake St Bridge not ready so CTA reroutes continue

Welles St Bridge Chicago

Green and Pink Line trains will continue to skip part of the Loop after the city again pushed back the reopening of the Lake Street Bridge.

The Chicago Department of Transportation needs more time to finish working so the agency says it will announce sometime later this week when CTA trains will resume their regular routes.

The Lake Street Bridge was originally projected to be ready for trains before the morning rush on Monday.

Then it was pushed back to Wednesday morning before the latest postponement.

CDOT apologizes to riders, saying its crews are still connecting and aligning new parts of the double-decker bridge with the existing 110-year-old structure.

The CTA will continue to run shuttles between Green and Pink Line trains during the disruption.

The bridge will remain closed to cars and pedestrians until at least January 2028.
