(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Flamingos have returned to Brookfield Zoo for the first time in more than 25 years.

Nine young flamingos can be seen in the zoo’s Swamp habitat. The birds range in age from five months to two years old and can be seen up-close each day at noon at the Roosevelt Fountain.

The zoo will also allow people to feed the birds starting next summer.

“Brookfield Zoo is thrilled to welcome back American flamingos to the Zoo’s family of aquatic birds,” Cody Hickman, associate director of avian care at the zoo, said in a news release. “Over the coming years, we hope to breed and hatch many more flamingo chicks at the Zoo to build up a large flock, similar to what you might experience in the wild.”

The zoo is asking for the public’s help in naming two of the birds -- a male and a female.

Female name possibilities are Daisy, Peggy, Fiona or Sunrise. Male name choices are Ringo, Fabio, Otis or Dash.
