CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A restaurant chain known for its beef has decided to make a plant-based substitute a permanent part of its menu.
Buona Beef had planned to offer sandwiches with the plant-based version of its legendary Italian beef for a limited time.
But Candice Jordan, Buona's marketing director, said it was such a hit that the company decided to make it a regular part of its menu.
Jordan said Buona had also considered other options for vegan customers, such as Impossible Burgers, and says the company might consider offering such options down the road.
It's plant-based version of Italian beef will also be sold at Whole Foods, Fresh Thyme and Jewel stores starting in November.
