MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Criminal charges have been filed against a Milwaukee Burger King employee and now he’s wanted for what appears to have been the accidental shooting of a co-worker who was being robbed.
The employee Derrick Ellis, 34 was inside the restaurant shortly after closing. Prosecutors said video evidence shows an armed man leaning inside the drive-up window trying to rob an employee.
Ellis allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the man. His 16 -year- old co-worker Niesha Harris Brazell was killed. It's not clear whether Ellis or the potential robber killed her.
"Pull out a gun and just start shooting? That’s not even logical! Why do you have a gun at a Burger King in the inside and you're a worker?" Niesha's mother Liceal Brazell told CBS 58 in Milwaukee.
After the shooting, police say Ellis was seen picking up shell casings and he asked someone to hide the gun in the safe before he left. He's charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm by a felon and there's a warrant for his arrest.
"My baby is going to get justice, the God that I serve is going to make sure of that," said Liceal, according to CBS 58.
