(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 43-year-old Woodridge man is accused of siphoning more than $200,000 from Elmhurst Hospital while he was a supervisor at the cafeteria there.

DuPage County authorities say Todd Jagow was able to steal about $218,630 between February 2018 and January 20 through fraudulent electronic record-keeping that made it seem like the cash register was balancing. A review of sales later uncovered the theft.

Jagow allegedly used the stolen money for personal expenses, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and Elmhurst Police said in a joint news release.

He is charged with two counts of theft in excess of $100,000, a Class 1 felony that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, prosecutors said.

“It is alleged that Mr. Jagow treated the coffers at Elmhurst Hospital as his own personal piggy bank, skimming money as he needed,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a prepared statement. “His alleged scheme came to an end however, when authorities at the hospital grew suspicious of his actions and contacted the Elmhurst Police Department who conducted a thorough investigation.”

Jagow is free on $10,000 bond. He’s due in court April 20, officials said.
