(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’ll cost a pretty penny to get into Welsh-Ryan Arena for Wednesday night’s matchup between Northwestern and the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes.
Clark, the do-everything guard for Iowa’s women’s basketball team — who’s become college basketball’s top draw — needs to score only 14 points against Northwestern to climb to second on the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring leaders list.
“I think with fees, the cheapest ticket tonight is $275,” said sports business reporter and Northwestern alum Darren Rovell on 670 the Score.
Rovell said he received ticket requests for Wednesday’s game as early as Jan. 2 from folks who figured he may be able to use his Northwestern connections to get them into the arena.
“No one’s ever come to me, like 30 days in advance to try and help them out with Northwestern tickets,” he said.
NU Men’s coach Chris Collins said he lost count a while ago about the number of ticket requests he’s received to see Clark.
Collins, whose first job in coaching was for the Detroit Shock, a former WNBA team, said it’s awesome to see so many people trying to get into the game.
Rovell called Clark “clearly the best star in college basketball right now.”
“Her game is ridiculous,” he said. “She is hitting the Steph Curry shots. She is hitting the 30-footers.”
Clark, who averages 32 points per game, is on pace to become the No. 1 all-time scorer in women’s college basketball.
If she manages to score at her average rate or better in each of her last nine games of the regular season, Clark would surpass Pete Maravich and become the all-time scoring leader in college basketball — for men and women.
