(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The latest cruise ship to set sail may be too big for some travelers.
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' Icon of the Seas, dubbed the world's largest cruise ship, is over twice as long and 12 times heavier than the ship that served as the inspiration for the "Love Boat" on TV over 40 years ago.
The ship can accommodate 5, 600 passengers and over 2,000 crew members.
Angie Rice of Boutique Travel Advisors in Scottsdale, Arizona tells the Noon Business Hour that some cruise passengers may be turned off by the sheer size of the vessel.
"We also have to evaluate is too big too big and I think there's a real concern."
Rice said the big ships get the headlines, but she adds cruise regulars want a more laid back experience on a smaller liner.
"There is a market for people who want to cruise and they want more of a specialty resort-style of travel while aboard on a ship."
Rice also pointed out some concerns with how a cruise ship this large might affect tourism at some of the destinations-saying that with these type of ships are now being designed in a way that people don't want to leave them.
"The destinations in the third world countries that really need the tourism in order to thrive," she added.
"Different cruise lines really need to evaluate 'how do we create a cruise line that offers the opportunities for people to want to cruise with us', but at the same time be conscientious of supporting the destination, because in my opinion travel really needs to be focused on the destination."
