(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Workers who are returning to the office are learning that some pandemic habits die hard.

Virtual meetings flourished as workers retreated to their home offices in 2020.

While many workers return to their cubicles and skyscrapers, the meetings remain. Microsoft reports the number of teams meetings is still three times higher than 2020.

Michelle Reisdorf, with Robert Half in Chicago tells the WBBM Noon Business hour that meetings can be a productivity killer.

"People are definitely more productive when they work in the same mental mode for a block of time, so meeting after meeting forces you to change gears frequently and maybe not get a whole lot done."

She said managers and team leaders need to weigh several factors in deciding if a meeting is neccessary.

"If it's simply communication or touching base with someone, lots of times that can be done through emails and obviously chat."
