(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago's historic Marshall Field building is once again a hub for chocolate-making, with Ferrero's new innovation lab.

The ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Tuesday marked a new era of candy manufacturing in the State Street building that now house Macy’s. Ferrero brands include Nutella, Tic Tac and Ferrero Rocher.

Alanna Cotton, Ferrero's North America president and chief business officer, said the Chicago lab will focus on enhancing and developing products.

"Really working on refining our existing recipes, but also creating new treats and snacks for consumers. For us, it's really about creating new ways to delight our consumers,” Cotton said.

Ferrero officials said the lab will continue to grow Chicago's food manufacturing industry. It’s expected to employ more than 150 workers.
