CAROL STREAM (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Family and friends of a man who was shot and killed by Carol Stream Police earlier this month confronted the mayor during a Village Board meeting Tuesday night, demanding the body camera video of the incident be released to the public.
“We’re not answering any questions because we are not able to answer questions,” Mayor Frank Saverino said to the family of Isaac Goodlow III.
Saverino gave them his “sincere condolences.”
They didn’t want condolences. One after another they demanded that the video, part of which they’ve seen, be released.
“What [are] you covering up? What [are] you hiding? If you’re not hiding nothing, you’re not covering nothing, and you’re being transparent, you’ll release video. You will let the world see what really happened,” Goodlow’s niece said.
Police were responding to a domestic violence incident when Goodlow was shot. Police Chief Don Cummings said they encountered a “tense, uncertain and rapidly evolving situation.”
His family said he did nothing wrong and that he was asleep when he was killed.
Goodlow’s sister Kyenna McConico and his mother Bonnie Pigram were among those who confronted the mayor.
“What we’ve seen in the video was unjustified,” McConico said.
“How would you all feel if one of your kids was laying down asleep and the police came and shot your kid down? Pigram asked. “It hurt my heart. I’m in a lot of pain. I want it to go public so the world can see what they did to my baby.”
Cummings said there’s an independent investigation. He had nothing else to share.
