CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There’s another example of how people cannot be complacent and leave their cars unlocked outside their homes, whether they live in the city or suburbs.
Police in far northwest suburban Cary are looking for three suspects, one of whom may have had a handgun, who have been going into people's unlocked cars and a garage.
Cary police were called Thursday to a residence in the Sterling Ridge subdivision located off Silver Lake Road for a delayed report of a criminal trespass to a
vehicle and attached garage.
According to police, the resident called and reported finding their garage door and vehicle doors open, which caused them to check video footage from their home surveillance system.
The video showed three subjects exited a vehicle parked in the roadway in front of the residence at about 12:55 a.m., entered a presumably unlocked vehicle in the driveway, and used the garage door opener from the unlocked vehicle to gain access to the attached garage.
According to police, once the garage door was open, two suspects entered the attached garage and the vehicle parked inside the garage.
The video also showed the third person trying to open the door of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence across the street.
In reviewing the video footage, officers saw one of the subjects who entered the attached garage carrying what appears to be a handgun. While this cannot be confirmed from the video, this is based on the manner in which the subject is carrying the item, police said.
The suspects all wore dark colored clothing and appeared to be wearing gloves and face coverings.
The Cary Police Department asks anyone with information regarding this incident, or an incident similar in nature contact the Investigations Section at 847-639-2341.
