CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The President of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police said the union will continue to fight the city over COVID testing, should it become an issue, and said the new overtime policy is an acknowledgement that officers were being abused.

John Catanzara said in a video message to FOP members the city has suspended COVID testing for all employees except those in the Department of Public Health. And, he noted, this doesn't impact police.

"They do reserve right to reinstitute the testing. We are demanding a hearing should that occur prior to it actually starting and have the city explain why the testing is needed, what science is based on that need and have an arbitrator decide if that's verifiable or not before testing would resume," Catanzara said.

Catanzara also addressed the city's new position on canceled days off for officers.

"It was not a gift. It was a realization that they've been abusing that policy up and down for two years now and they had to do something because the blow back was finally getting too loud," Catanzara added.
