(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It was just over two months ago when a 30-year-old MIT graduate was found dead in his Streeterville apartment, along with pipe bombs and other potentially explosive materials.

Now, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office has provided more clues about his death.

Cause of death for Theodore Hilk is listed as lidocaine toxicity — an accidental death.

Lidocaine is typically used as an anesthetic.

The M.E.’s office said death from lidocaine is extremely rare. This is the first in at least five years.

The toxicology report also showed Hilk had in his system hydroxychloroquine, which is used in the treatment of malaria and lupus. It also was touted by former President Donald Trump as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
