(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Midwest company has a new high tech tool for diagnosing concussions.
The science of diagnosing, treating and monitoring the lasting effects of concussions is changing rapidly.
Dr Cindy Fenske is the executive director of the Center for Simulation and Innovation in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She said a concussion simulator is a teaching tool that takes a person through the process of diagnosing and treating a concussion, starting with a sports injury.
"If that happens to be the scenario…There’s eleven different ones. The patient or player may fall. The player may not fall. The player may fall and then get back up again. Each scenario is different,” Fenske said.
Once you assess the symptoms, the program asks you to make a decision.
“Once that data is gathered, that’s when you would be prompted then to make a decision about what happens next,” Fensked noted.
The simulator can work with augmented reality glasses, but Dr. Fenske said it works on a tablet or smartphone.
