CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police and prosecutors are expected to announce charges this morning in the violent death of an 11-year-old boy in Edgewater two days ago.

Jayden Perkins was kind and trustworthy, according to friends and classmates of the Pierce Elementary sixth grader. They gathered throughout the day Thursday outside the apartment building on Ravenswood where he was killed. Leaving flowers and pictures of the boy, he was a talented dancer.

His mother remains in the hospital, pregnant and recovering from multiple stab wounds.

CBS-2 reported she asked for an order of protection against the suspect three weeks before the attack but was denied. She told the judge the man texted her that he would kill her and her family.

He was released from prison the day before Jayden was killed.
