DEKALB COUNTY (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A truck driver is now facing multiple criminal charges for a crash last week that killed a Dekalb County Sheriff’s deputy.

DeKalb’s Nathan P. Sweeney, 44, is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI in the death of Deputy Christina Musil.

Her marked SUV was parked on the shoulder of Illinois Route 23 in Waterman last Thursday night, when, according to State Police, Sweeny, driving his Kenworth semi, ran off the road and rear-ended the squad car.

Sweeney was initially given citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

State Police said Sweeney was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
