CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A family-owned bakery in Villa Park has been without its oven for a week now but customers are chipping in to help buy a new one. As of press time, the Go Fund Me campaign for Kuppie’s Bakery has raised over $44,000.

Owner Dawn Hanrahan is overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the customers who have been coming to Kuppie’s since even before she took over 15 years ago.

“We do a lot of joking around. It’s a very happy place. You know, people care, neighborly, talking to each other. I mean, I love it and it’s just amazing,” Hanrahan told WBBM Newsradio.

The company that has repaired the bakery’s Faulds oven, which Hanrahan estimated is at least 60 years old, said they can’t get parts for it anymore. So the fundraiser is to buy a new one.

In the meantime, Kuppie’s is still cranking out donuts and will make paczkis for Fat Tuesday.
