CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago area bars are open for business this Super Bowl Sunday but COVID-19 is making watching the game a different kind of experience.
Last year, warmer weather and no restrictions meant a line of Kansas City Chiefs fans waited outside Toons on Super Bowl Sunday at 9:30 a.m. said manager Rich Hagerty.
That kind of crowd isn’t allowed under state coronavirus guidelines so the Wrigleyville bar must limit capacity to 22 guests.
Hagerty said customers are ordering plenty of wings for takeout and delivery.
Crowd size during the game won’t be an issue at Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville because the brewery has closed before kickoff for the last several years.
Owner Brian Grano said that’s due to house parties being the popular place to watch the game in the suburbs even before the pandemic.
He said he expects smaller house parties means more orders of pizza, wings, six-packs and growlers and predicts a record number of orders.
