Popular restaurant closing Orland Park location

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Less than three weeks left before the end of a southwest suburban era and a lot of people are not happy about it.

Traverso’s Restaurant announced on Facebook over the weekend that it would soon be closing its Orland Park location on 156th Street and Harlem Avenue.

The post read: “All good things must come to an end. On January 1st, Traverso’s will be closing our doors after 47 wonderful years.”

More than 700 people commented on Facebook and nearly 1,500 people shared the post.

Nick Binotti said his grandparents went to Traverso’s so often the restaurant sent a flower arrangement to his grandfather’s funeral.

Diane Lillwitz posted that Traverso’s was her first job in 1974.  She thanked owner John Traverso for having a place that made people feel like they were all coming home.

“I’m going to need both your pizza and cheesecake recipes posted online. Thanks in advance," Barry Schnell wrote on Facebook.

Jake Rickord wrote that he had his first drink and proposed to his fiancé there.  He called it a huge loss to the community.

Doreen Gregori asked where she was going to get the best ravioli and pizza when Traverso’s closes. She asked for the minestrone soup recipe saying it’s her husband’s favorite.

Traverso's owner declined WBBM Newsradio's request for an interview.

Traverso’s in Naperville will remain open.
