The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that La Guadalupana Foods LLC of Chicago, Illinois, is recalling 2,669 pounds of frozen tamales due to misbranding and an unreported allergen.
The bean, cheese and jalapeno tamales were mislabeled as mild pork tamales, which means the cheese (milk), a known allergen, is not declared on the product label.
FSIS says it's concerned that some products may be in restaurant and consumer refrigerators or freezers because of its long shelf life. The tamales were shipped to restaurant and retail locations in Illinois, Iowa, Ohio and Wisconsin.
No illnesses have been reported.
