If you’re a Blackhawks fan and you’re up for a game outside North America, start making travel plans for December in Europe.

The National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association announced today in Dusseldorf, Germany that the NHL will be having a bigger, long-term presence in Germany. There’ll be NHL games in Germany for at least the next three seasons starting with a pair of games in December between the Blackhawks and the Ottawa Senators.

The leading scorer for the Senators is from Germany.

Those will be the second and third times NHL teams have played in Germany. The first was in 2011.

In recent years, National Hockey League games have been played in Sweden, Finland and Czechia.

Like in those three countries this year, the NHL is sponsoring a Hockey Day in Germany this weekend with activities designed to spark interest in the game and in the NHL.

The Hockey Day festivities will include “interactive experiences at the NHL Global Fan Tour, an appearance by the Stanley Cup, e-gaming competitions and a live viewing event for the NHL Saturday presented by Fastenal broadcast featuring the Anaheim Ducks and the Ottawa Senators.”
