The Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago broke ground on a new club on the city’s west side. The first new facility in a generation.

The President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, Mimi LeClair, says its the first new facility to be built in 25 years.

It’s going up on the site of the city’s Joint Public Safety Training Campus on West Chicago Avenue. The new facility will 30,000 square-feet on three levels and will be called the Rusu McCartin Boys and Girls Club.

The majority of funding for the $15 million club is coming from philanthropists George Rusu and Bart McCartin.

The facility includes a gym, technology center, art and dance studios, a science lab and a roof-top nature space.

Mimi LeClair, President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, commented on what this means for the organization.

"It's a very big deal. It has been 25 years since we were able to build from the ground up and that was our Jordan Club, which is just behind the United Center. So this has been historic for the organization, and I dare say, historic for the city of Chicago," she said.

They’re expecting to open the doors in 14 months.
