(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Some vital workers threatened to strike in the near future if they can’t come to a contract agreement with employers.

SEIU Local 1 janitors held a rally in the rain at Daley Plaza before marching to the headquarters of the Building Owners and Management Association.

A strike vote could come as soon as Saturday if a new deal with better pay is not reached by then, union officials said.

The janitors are responsible for servicing over 80 percent of the county’s commercial office buildings.

“They need to put more money in our paychecks. They need to put more money in our pensions so we can retire,” Union President Genie Kastrup said.
