Things to do in Chicago this weekend

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Temperatures aren’t the only thing that will be cool this weekend. The Chicago area boasts several activities and events for people to enjoy.

WBBM Newsradio’s Rachel Pierson has the latest roundup:

—Get a behind-the-scenes look at iconic buildings throughout the Chicago area during the Chicago Architecture Center’s Open House Chicago. It’s back for another free weekend of architectural discoveries. Continue exploring all month long with self-guided tours and a suite of virtual programs.

—Celebrate cinema at the longest-running competitive film festival in North America. The 58th Chicago International Film Festival will bring more than 90 features and 60 shorts from around the world to the big screen.

—Venture into the Valley of the Kings at Immersive King Tut. Journey through the Egyptian afterlife with digital art installations and animations at Lighthouse Artspace Chicago in Old Town.

—Explore the impact that incarceration has on young people at “Can You See Me?” at the Weinberg/Newton Gallery in River West. Three exhibits feature artwork by incarcerated young people, contemporary artists and arts-justice organizations.

—There are plenty of haunted happenings this weekend, including a walking tour of St. Peter and St. Mary Cemeteries in Elmhurst. The Graveside Stories Cemetery Walk offers perspectives of past residents that’s fun for all ages.

—Want a screaming good time? Walk through one of more than a dozen haunted houses, including the 13th Floor in Melrose Park, Midnight Terror in Oak Lawn, Realm of Terror in Round Lake Beach and the Basement of the Dead in Aurora.

—And the Morton Arboretum in Lisle is gleaming with more than 7,000 pieces of glass art. You’ll want to get to the Glass Pumpkin Patch early so you can grab a gourd when they go on sale.
