(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A North Side church has remembered a man who is among those often forgotten.
Theodore Quintana was a homeless man who lived in the alley near Saint Mary of the Lake and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on North Sheridan Road.
The familiar fixture of the Buena Park neighborhood died in late May. Hundreds gathered at the church for a funeral Mass last weekend.
Father Manny Dorantes said Quintana, who reportedly escaped the Cuban revolution and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, was considered a member of the community.
“We tried to help him get a room,” but Quintana declined the offer, the clergy member said.
Father Dorantes said Quintana once explained to him, “This is my home, I feel comfortable in the street. I just want to stay here.”
Money is being raised for a cemetery marker.
