CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago police officer suffered a broken leg after authorities say he was intentionally hit by a car that he had just pulled over on DuSable Lake Shore Drive Friday night.
It happened just after 8 p.m. on the southbound drive near Roosevelt Road. According to police, a car matching the description of a vehicle wanted in connection with an incident earlier this month that involved an aggravated battery to a police officer was pulled over.
As the officer approached, the driver put the car in reverse. The officer fired at the car and was hit.
Nobody was hit by the gunfire.
Other officers pursued the car for miles — to the 7200 block of South Vincennes — where the driver stopped and the occupants jumped out and ran.
They were caught.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital in good condition.
