
They’re dancing on the sidewalks in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood as one company thinks outside the box (step) during the pandemic.
Arthur Murray has reduced the size of in-person dance classes inside its 3,700-square-foot studio, offered lessons via zoom and without contact.
It’s part of the pivot owner Amy Novotany says they’ve come up with to keep students comfortable.
She said dancers have their own designated space on the wide sidewalk along Marshfield at Lincoln and a sound system to keep the beat.
The weather has cooperated most days and the school hopes to keep dancing outside as long as possible.
Notovny says lessons are popular with people looking to exercise outside of a gym, prepare for a wedding or have a different kind of date night.
