CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s an art museum first, a boutique hotel second.
So says Marc Condie, business travel sales manager for the 21c Museum Hotel Chicago at 55 E. Ontario.
“No other company can claim that exact statement,” he said Tuesday on the Noon Business Hour. “The hotel blurs the lines between contemporary art museum and boutique hotel.”
The private hotel chain, based in Louisville, Kentucky, was started by two collectors of contemporary art.

“Our 21c founders, Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson, had this vast art collection,” Condie said. “They said, ‘What should we do with it?’ They said, ‘Let’s display it in a museum. Wait a minute. Let’s put the hotel with that.’”
Guests can coordinate their own private tour of the art museum during their stay.

The Chicago site has 110 pieces of art on display, and different works will be rotated in from the owners’ larger collection, Condie explained.
The Chicago location features other amenities, including fine dining.
