CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A South Side nonprofit that allows members to borrow tools is in search of a bigger building.

The Chicago Tool Library at 37th Street and Morgan Avenue in the Bridgeport neighborhood has run out of room.

The nonprofit has allowed members to borrow tools for any number of jobs since its inception during the summer of 2019.

Block Club Chicago reported that membership has ballooned from 150 people two years ago to 1,500 in 2021.

The founders said they have run out of room at their 1,000-square foot library where it keeps more than 2,500 mostly donated tools.
The library’s so full that the founders have turned away donations due to a lack of room.

The tool library hopes to relocate to a bigger building by the spring.
