About 150 people who had appointments to get COVID-19 vaccines at South Shore Hospital this week were told not to come because there was no vaccine.

On Thursday, President and CEO Tim Caveney said it turns out the hospital missed a deadline to request the vaccine from the Chicago Department of Public Health.

“Mistakes happen all the time, unfortunately,” he told WBBM Newsradio. “This affects our patients, and that’s the part that makes us very concerned.”

The city’s Department of Public Health says the vaccine doses will be sent to South Shore Hospital next week.

Caveney said patients who didn’t receive vaccines this week will get them early next week. He said everybody who already had an appointment scheduled next week will be vaccinated, too.

“When we screw up we try to fix it right away.”
