(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago man set a new record at a stone crab eating contest in the Florida Keys.
The Keys Fisheries' Stone Crab Eating Contest, held Saturday, required contestants to crack and eat 25 of the stone crab claws and pick them completely clean in the fastest time.
Chicagoan Scott Milison beat over 39 other contestants and set a contest record with a final time of 10 minutes and 17 seconds, which beat the previous record by six seconds.
"I think I just cracked the world record for stone crab, first place,” he told CBS Miami. “Bringing home the prize back to Chi-town."
He told the station that entering the competition was a spontaneous decision. His family and friends suggested it as they traveled to the Keys with Milison to celebrate their November birthdays.
"No experience, professionally, in any contest of eating, and to be able to enjoy stone crab was just a bonus," he said.
