CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Lightfoot says a run for a second term as mayor is “not a gimme" — meaning, she’s thinking about it.

The first-term mayor was asked Monday about an interview she gave to the New York Times in which she said she hasn’t decided whether she’ll run again.

“It’s not a gimme. Now, the truth is that I believe in being prepared.  We’ve raised over $2 million since I took the oath of office. Last year alone, we raised over half a million dollars,” she said.

“So, I believe in being prepared.  But it’s a conversation that I need to have at the appropriate time with my wife.”

“Sixteen months into a global pandemic, a massive economic dislocation, surging violence,” the mayor said.  “It’s not a gimme.”
