CHICAGO CITY HALL (WBBM Newsradio) -- Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson has nominated a former federal prosecutor and corporate auditor to serve as the city's next Inspector General.

David Glockner spent almost a quarter-century in the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago, including eleven years as head of the criminal division, where he was involved in the convictions of former Governors George Ryan and Rod Blagojevich.

Most recently, he was head of compliance for Exelon, the parent company of ComEd.

Former federal prosecutor Patrick Collins served with Glockner, and calls him "an inspired choice."

"A pro's pro, a person of integrity, a person who knows sort of how public corruption works," Collins said, describing him as "a guy who knows how the unfortunate underbelly of government can work sometimes, and I think that's exactly who the mayor needs to run the Inspector General's office."

If he's confirmed by City Council, he'll succeed Deborah Witzburg, whose last day as IG was April 24. Witzburg would not comment on the mayor's selection of Glockner.

Johnson calls his nominee a "seasoned public servant" with the "experience, independence and integrity needed" for the job.
