(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The chief operating officer of the Chicago Public Schools system says air conditioning at some schools may be "spotty,” but there's a plan to deal with that.
CPS COO Charles Mayfield says the heat plan is working so far.
"If the air conditioning goes down, we do our best to relocate students to another classroom so they remain comfortable. And at the same time, we prepare and we back-up for the backup,” he told WBBM Newsradio on Wednesday, as temps spiked across the Chicago area.
"The district currently has about 225 air-conditioning units in stock just for days like these."
Mayfield said CPS has about a dozen portable air conditioners. If a classroom air-conditioning unit goes down, CPS is ready with a backup, he said.
