CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Robiar Smith is the CEO of R.B. Pest Solutions on the South Side, which offers ways to control insects at homes and businesses — without pesticides.
One way her crews do it is by spraying a combination of water and essential oils, such as peppermint and clove oil, which she said act as a natural insect repellent.
“Those essential oils can really, really help and they're not harmful to your pets and your children, and yourself,” Smith said.
Smith said the essential oils spray worked so well for her crews that she decided to bottle and sell it to give consumers a pesticide-free alternative to bug sprays.
“Many of the great ingredients that is in our product is what we’re using on a day-to-day basis,” Smith said. “We got an opportunity to see how it works.”
The essential oil spray comes in two sizes: a 24-ounce bottle for the home and a 3-ounce bottle for travel, so folks don’t bring home bugs they might encounter the way.
“A lot of insects, they’re hitchhikers,” she said. “Now you have a spray; you can spray your luggage; you can spray your hotel room and you’re remaining pest free.”
Smith sells the spray at her store on Cottage Grove near 83rd Street, as well as online.
It’s Made in Chicago.
