(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The newest data released from last year's U-S Census is a bit of a mixed bag for the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois.

Chicago’s population grew by about 50,000 residents between 2010 and 2020, after losing about 200,000 residents in the decade before that.

As for Illinois, it is one of three states, including West Virginia and Mississippi, that lost population, Marc Perry from of the U.S. Census Bureau said.

The state's drop in population between 2010 and 2020 amounts to 18,000 people, less than 1%.
