Man seriously wounded after exchange of gunfire with Chicago police on Lower Wacker Drive

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was seriously wounded in a shootout Wednesday night with Chicago police officers on Lower Wacker Drive in the Loop, officials said.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. in the 200 block of East Lower Wacker Drive. Chicago police said officers had stopped a car that had been taken in a carjacking. There were three males inside.

According to Chicago police, when the officers approached the vehicle, there was an exchange of gunfire.

Chicago fire officials said a 25-year-old suspect was shot multiple times and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was in serious to critical condition.

The other two in the car were not injured and were taken into custody. Police said two guns were recovered at the scene.

Meanwhile, two Chicago police officers were hospitalized for injuries, but did not suffer gunshot wounds.

According to fire officials, one officer was transported to the hospital in fair to serious condition and another officer was taken to Rush Medical Center in good to fair condition.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.
