CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating a fatal police shooting Monday night on Chicago's West Side.
Chicago Police said officers on patrol, as part of a priority response team, saw a man trying to stab another man near Jackson and Cicero in the Austin neighborhood, shortly after 11 p.m.
Police said they ordered the man to drop the weapon and try to de-escalate the situation, but, when that failed, officers began shooting.
Both men were shot.
The suspect died at the hospital, and the victim was in critical condition when paramedics took him to the hospital.
Two officers were also taken for observation.
COPA is investigating, and the officers involved will be on desk duty for 30 days.
