A man is dead after a police shooting Tuesday night on Chicago’s far north side during a scuffle that sent an officer to the hospital.

Chicago police say tactical officers were investigating a stolen car near Hollywood and Washtenaw in Arcadia Terrace when a dark sedan pulled up and two men tried to get inside the stolen car at 10:25pm.

The department says as the officers approached, one man ran off while the other returned to his car.

Police say the man refused to get out and during a struggle he started to drive, dragging an officer.

An officer shot the man in the head and the car then hit an empty parked car, police say.

Police say the officers treated the driver but the 20-year-old died at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Officers took a woman in the car into custody without incident and recovered two guns, police said.

One officer was taken to the hospital for minor injuries but the department did not provide any more details.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating and the officers involved will be put on administrative duty for 30 days.
