CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man remains in the hospital, and a Chicago police officer has been put on desk duty after a shooting Thursday in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood, on the Far South Side.

Chicago police said an officer shot a man who was leaning out of a second-story window of a home near 110th and Millard, shortly before 4 p.m.

The department said officers were called there for a report of a man with a gun who claimed he had harmed his family.

Police said officers ordered him to keep his hands visible. One officer shot the man who then fell out of the window. CBS News Chicago reported it appears the man was experiencing a mental health crisis. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The officer was taken for observation. Police say no one else in the home was injured. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating.

Police did not say if they recovered a gun.
