(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The 2024 Chicago Pride Parade will be noticeably smaller than it’s been in previous years, according to a statement from PrideChicago, which organizes the annual event.
The 2024 parade will feature 125 entries, which is about two-thirds smaller than the number of entries in the 2023 parade.
Officials said the reason for the limit was based on safety and logistics concerns raised to organizers after meeting with the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Department of Transportation.
"We understand there will be some disappointed groups that will not march with us this year; we extend a heartfelt thank you for your support and understanding," organizers said in a statement to WBBM Newsradio.
Applications to march in the 2024 parade have also been closed, organizers said. Those who were unable to secure a spot in the parade were encouraged to join the waitlist, and LGBTQ+ organizations were asked to contact organizers directly.
Another change to the 2024 parade: PrideChicago said it would step off at 11 a.m. — one hour earlier than normal.
The theme for the 2024 Chicago Pride Parade is “Pride is Power.”
