CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Public Schools (CPS) said it’s decided to cancel after-school activities after Thursday, due to the winter storm expected to arrive in Chicago Thursday afternoon.
That affects all aftercare and out-of-school-time programming. Classes, though, will take place as planned, officials said Wednesday.
Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez said Thursday would be a full day of class, despite earlier communication that an early dismissal was possible.
"Many CPS students count on their schools for more than education, relying on us for meals, warmth, and adult supervision while parents and guardians are at work," CPS tweeted Wednesday. "We will be able to provide that for our children on Thursday as this first storm of the season reaches Chicago.
Classes will not take place on Friday.
