CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago traffic tie-ups during the pandemic improved slightly last year over 2019.
The annual Global Traffic Scorecard from INRIX, a data and analytics company, has found that Chicago was rated the third-most congested city in the nation last year, down from its No. 2 spot in 2019. The top two most-congested cities were New York and Philadelphia.
While there was the minor improvement, the Eisenhower Expressway, particularly from I-290/294 to I-90/94 Interchange, was ranked the most congested road in the entire country. The Jane Byrne Interchange project is partially to blame.
INRIX found the Chicagoans saw a 40 percent drop in congestion last year over 2019 and a 22 percent decline in daily trips.
Worldwide, Chicago ranked No. 7 among the most congested cities, up three spots from last year.
