CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - If your Christmas tree is still in your house shedding needles, it's time to recycle it.

Chicago has opened up 27 locations to recycle your tree.

Saturday, John Wagner took his tree to the location on Columbus Drive in Grant Park.

"We do it every year, and I enjoy doing what we can to make sure we're recycling and disposing [of] it the right way," Wagner told WBBM. "We enjoy having the holiday spirit for as long as we can, but it was time."

Chicago's Christmas tree recycling program runs through Jan 25.

Six of the 27 locations have begun offering free mulch.

"My bike is going to smell like pine trees for a few months, I'm going to love it. It smells so calming and refreshing…This is almost like an organic street sweeper as I drag the tree behind me," Rick Rosales said.
