(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Sky are getting their own practice facility.

They're headed south from the public Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield to a private soon-to-be built facility in the Village of Bedford Park.

The $38 million, 40,000-square-foot performance center is slated to open before the 2026 season.

It provides some things the Sky have never had, like 24 hour access to state of the art film and strength facilities, and a chef's kitchen to up the players’ nutrition. It also includes content creation studio, beauty stations, two  regulation sized WNBA courts and a locker rooms with personalized lockers.

Ground is scheduled to break on the project in the fall.

It's also closer to downtown and to Wintrust Arena, which might make the franchise more attractive to free agents. Money for the village is coming from both private and public sources, and the Sky say they'll expand their community outreach and work with both the Obama Foundation and the YMCA of Metro Chicago as a result.
