Chicago staying on top of weekend winter storm, officials say

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – City officials offered an update Friday on how Chicago is responding to the first significant winter storm of the season.

More than 250 workers are out salting the roads, Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Cole Stallard said.

“The snow fleet is addressing snow and ice along Chicago's arterial streets, along with DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
So, we make sure those main streets are safe, passable for our emergency vehicles, our buses, and our passengers and our visitors coming into the city,” he said.

Crews will be out all weekend and responding to 3-1-1 calls, Stallard said.

Commissioner of Buildings Matt Baudet reminded renters that their landlords must follow the Chicago heat ordinance, which requires apartments to be a minimum of 68 degrees during the day and 66 degrees overnight.

Landlords can face fines of up to $1000 per day, per offense.
