CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A day ahead of the municipal elections, the Chicago Board of Elections is still looking for more election judges.

Max Bever, spokesman for the Board of Elections said that, technically, the polling places are fully staffed, but “just enough” election judges are not enough.

“At this point, if people are interested and if their available [Tuesday], we recommend giving us a call at 312-269-7984, because we also need standby judges,” Bever said.

Those are the judges who get dispatched to the polling places where not enough judges showed up for work.

Bever said the Chicago Board of Elections would like to hire 200–300 more judges to staff the city’s polling locations on Tuesday.

“Five election judges are staffed per precinct polling place. Right now, we’ve hit that. All of our wards and our precincts are pretty well covered, but again, we do want to get ahead of anybody who wakes up on election morning and goes, ‘You know what? Maybe this isn’t for me.’”

Bever added that the effort helps ensure that all polling places open on time and are fully staffed throughout the day.

By the way, standby judges do get paid.
