CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Fierce winds and freezing will make for a dangerous one-two punch these next few days.

Originally, forecasters Wednesday were concerned about snow showers and the potential for squalls, intense, heavy bursts of snow during the evening commute.

However, with temperatures above freezing, it became more of a nonissue.

It's the howling winds that have become a serious concern.

Winds out of the northwest will steadily be 20 to 30 mph, with potential gusts up to 50 mph, the National Weather Services says,

The strong winds will hang around until Thursday night, according to AccuWeather.

The combination of gusty winds and crashing air temperatures will result in downright brutally cold conditions. By Thursday morning, wind chill levels could be at 15 below zero.

The good news: A warmup is in sight. AccuWeather expects temperatures to creep into the 40s by Saturday.
